Questions: Satan's Reason

Why did Satan rebel if he knew God was sovereign / almighty / omnipotent?

I have an idea, but what do you think?

He was just trying to be like me.

Very good question that I have pondered before. Somehow it always leads me to another question.

By rebelling, was Satan in God's perfect will?

I'm with you JD on that mystery.

Jesus says, "He was a murderer from the begining, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. ... he is a liar, and the father of it." John 8:44

I'm thinking our Lord is going back to the garden of Eden here. Before that, there's really not much. Even Lucifer, who many claimed to be the devil, may not be him, but the king of Babylon.

Here's my simple answer:

He became enraptured with his gifts and beauty. This caused his heart to fill with pride which blinded him to the truth about God.

In this proudful state he openly rebelled against God and took one third of the angels with him.

Yes that is the simple answer, and I agree, pride can so blind us that we would even go directly against God almighty...

My deeper question is, what did Satan's pride do to him, in other words, what did he think he could do, win a fight, or do some subtle thing, or what?...

We know what he wanted to do, ascend above God, but how would he do it...part of his plan, of course, would be to persuade angels to join his cause, and what of them, what did he tell them to get them to believe?...

It seems foolish enough to us but I'm sure he used a similar line on Eve as he did on the angels.

Perhaps even the greater question is; how could an angel "sin" against God? Did God actually give them a free will as well?

"Did God actually give them a free will as well?"

Seems like He did. And He also has His elect angels. Or can His elect angels still rebel?

These are interesting thoughts, perhaps I will be posting a follow up question or two...

IMHO Satan rebelling would have to of been God's perfect will just because the "original sin" of Satan's pride... well, if it did happen then would'nt it have to have been His will? Nothing is out of the control of God. Just my 2 cents.
