Christianity teaches that
the highest purpose of people is “To glorify God and enjoy him forever.” But
the world, directed by the Devil, tries to convince you that your highest
purpose ought to be finding whatever makes you happy. And yes, happiness matters.
God is happy, and he wants you happy. And he is the source of true and lasting
happiness. God didn’t create you to maximize your happiness with other things
and within yourself. He created you to find your satisfaction in him, thereby
bringing him glory in whatever situation you’re in. The world feeds you the
idea that you aren’t as happy as you should be, and that you need something
more than God for your satisfaction. It’s just like Adam and Eve in Genesis 3 –
the Devil entices you, hoping that you will choose yourself instead of God’s
glory. But it leads to a never-ending quest instead of rest.
We all want to be happy. The question is: where are you looking for your happiness? In what God has made, or in God himself?
