The Anger Epidemic

I want to talk to you about a contagious form of anger. And it’s being spread all over the world today. It’s when you’re angry at someone else’s anger. Or some group’s anger. Whatever they’re angry about, you think they’re wrong to be angry about it. And you get so angry at their anger that your heart just wants to beat the anger out of them. And you think you’re right to be angry, because they don’t deserve to be angry.

Well, that sort of anger from you won’t help them, it will only make them feel justified in their anger, and spread their anger. And that sort of anger in you won’t help you, it will only eat you up inside. And poison your world.

James 1:20 says the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Don’t be angry at other people’s anger, be angry at your own anger. And stop the poison from spreading in your heart, and polluting your world.

The Gospel Wins

Psalm 117:1 says – Praise the LORD, all nations! Extol him, all peoples! The Hebrew word translated as praise means to celebrate the magnificence of God. The word LORD is capitalized, as it refers to the covenant name of God, and speaks of the character and nature of God. The psalmist is calling on all people to worship God because of who God is.

And it is going to happen. This psalm is a prophecy of when all peoples will praise the Lord. The Hebrew word translated as nations refers to the Gentiles. And in Romans 15:11, when the Apostle Paul makes his case that the Gentiles are included in the grace of God, he quotes Psalm 117:1. As Revelation 5:9 and 7:9-10 tells us, people from every tribe and language and nation are included in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and will sing before the throne of God. In the end, the Gospel wins. Praise the LORD!

You are a Saint

Have you ever wondered just who you are? Well, Ephesians 1:1 says that if you are a Christian, then you are a saint. That is what God says, regardless of what others say. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says that you are the righteousness of God in Christ. Yes, you can live more or less righteously, but your standing with God is not based on you, it is based on him.

You are a saint because God says so, because he has set you apart, forgiven your sins, adopted you into his family, given you the Holy Spirit. You are a saint. You are significant. You matter to God. 1 Peter 2:9 and Revelation 1:6 say you are part of a royal priesthood. 1 Corinthians 12:14-24 and Ephesians 4:16 teach that everyone counts in the Kingdom of God.

And it means that you are significant in the eyes of the most significant person in the universe. If you’re a Christian, that’s who you are.
