How Free Are You?

Freedom is not autonomy. Freedom is liberation from the enslavement of self-interest. You might think of freedom as the liberty to do what you want. But again, that is just the ability to be selfish. Rather, freedom is the ability to give oneself to others.

Of course, you can and should take care of yourself, in the sense of basic things, your obligations, spiritualty, etc. But are you so enslaved to your self-interest that you cannot serve others without serving yourself in some way? Do you always serve from a position of strength, where even your "sacrifice" doesn't involve any real weakness or need for dependence? Are you enslaved to your own strength? Are you free to serve others by depending on God?

Definitely something to ponder, pray about and strive for.
