Daily Gospel Devotional: May 6

John 6:41-59…

Soul food…

No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. They didn’t understand what Jesus was really saying because their hearts weren’t open. These things are not perceptible by reason, it takes revelation.

And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh. Jesus reiterates that He is indeed the bread of life. He contrasts this with the manna of Moses’ day, and how all those who ate of it were now deceased. He confounds the resisters once again by telling them that He is to be eaten, and that eating and drinking Him leads to eternal life.

How can this man give us his flesh to eat? He is speaking in both physical and spiritual terms. In the physical sense, Jesus is referring to His life and work. The eating and drinking refer to the spiritual aspect of our acceptance of Him and His work. He had referred to Himself before as living water (John 4:10). The point is that whoever believes has eternal life.

For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. The flesh is His sinless life, which makes His blood, in other words His death, the atonement for our sin. If you do not receive His sinless life and believe in His atoning death you will not experience the eternal life He is speaking of. But for those who do believe, who do eat and drink of Jesus, who make Him the substance and sustenance of their lives, they will know that whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.

Jesus, the bread of life, is the only true food for the soul.

The only other alternative is devil’s food cake.

What’s on your menu for today?

AMEN AND AMEN!!!

THIS IS ONE OF THE PLACES WHERE THE ETERNAL SECURITY FOLK GO OFF. BELIEVING IN IS THE KEY. SUBSTANCE AND SUSTENACE!!! FEEDS IS NOW. LIKE WHEN WE EAQT TO FEED OUR FLESH. TRUE BELIEVING LEADS US TO GAL 2:20 OR PHIL 3 TYPE STUFF. I HAVE TALKED TO MORE THAN I WANT TO OF PEOPLE WHO GOT SAVED AND BAPTISED YEARS BEFORE, AND THINK THEY ARE SAVED BASED ON YESTERDAY'S BELIEF. THE SCRIPTURE IS VERY CLEAR-------PAUL'S AND CHRIST HIMSELFS TEACHING, OVER AND OVER AGAIN BARE OUT THAT WHILE IT IS ONLY THROUGH HIS ATONEMENT THAT A MAN IS SAVED, IT IS PLAINLY THROUGH AN ACTIVE FAITH JAMES 2:20-24 THAT WE HAVE JUSTIFICATION. IN TRUTH I HOPE THE ETERN SEC FOLK ARE RIGHT-------------IF THEY ARE WRONG, THEY HAVE LED MILLIONS TO A DEVIL'S HELL FOR ETERNITY. IT ISN'T A WONDER WHY THE CHURCH AT LARGE IS ASLEEP----------PEOPLE ARE BELIEVING A LIE, AND JUST HAVE A PEACEFUL CONTENTMENT THAT IN SOME SWEET BY AND BY JIVE THEY WILL MAKE HEAVEN THEIR HOME. MAY AS WELL THROW THE PAULINE EPISTLES IN THE TRASH----1COR4---2COR 4. WONDER WHY HE SHARED THIS?? WE ARE PERSECUTED, BUT YOU GUYS ARE DOING GREAT------------FALSE SECURITY.

Luk 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

THIS IS NOT NECESSARILY TALKING ABOUT THE CROSS OF JESUS----------IT IS OUR CROSS THAT WE BARE AS WE SHARE THE GOSPEL. JESUS OBVIOUSLY BORE HIS CROSS, WHICH IS THE CENTER OF OUR BELIEF. THIS IS TALKING ABOUT THE BELIEVER.

BLESSINGS................

Yes, this is why the true doctrine is not "eternal security" but "perseverance of the saints". Eternal security, from God's view, of course, from our view, we are always justified (declared righteous) but the indicative of that is that we never fully and finally fall away.

Law to the proud, grace to the humble.

When I was younger I knew another teenager who grew up in a baptist family and she was taught "once saved always saved." As a result, she decided to go the way of self-mutilation and eventually started contemplating suicide. Her defense, "whatever, I've already accepted Jesus so no matter I do I'm still going to heaven." I was only born-again for about a year or two so I didn't have much insight on the doctrine of that issue. I agree that it is the "perseverance of the saints"that keeps salvation.

Yes, it is perseverance of the saints, but thsi is not so much imperative, but indicative...

In other words, it is not that our faithfulness "keeps" our salvation, it shows that we are being kept by God.
