What about Tithing? Part 2

USE THE PLAYER ABOVE TO LISTEN TO THIS POST

Listen to the audio or you might get the wrong idea. The New Testament teaches grace giving. We will first look at the concept of tithing as seen in the Old Testament, and then discuss how this relates to the New Testament, and what it teaches about giving and stewardship in general.

Genesis 28principle of stewardship (vs.13-15, 20-22)

• Jacob recognizes that all he has been blessed with has been given by God.

• God owns it, we use it, and we give some directly for God’s use.

• It is not a transfer of wealth, as if we give God a tenth of what is ours, it is an acknowledgement of who is the actual owner, not that we have produced, but that God has given us these gifts.

• We worship with what we have been given, for it is all from God. God entrusts us with all He has given us, and we recognize the giver and His control by giving off the top.

This is the second of 5 consecutive posts on this subject...

Where are you texts with their contexts?

You are trying to prove error by ignoring the context.

Nothing Abraham did with his tithe is an example for Christians to follow. Jacob told God what to do. Tithing in the law was only food from inside Israel. Those who received OT Levitical tithes were not allowed to own or iknheritd property. Do you? Tithing was never commanded to the church.

Yes Pastor, it was Victoria! T was giving me a bit of an insight with this teaching while she visited. I have never heard it taught from this angle. Tithing has always been bonked into our heads that u must give 10% back to the church. I truly enjoy this fresh look. Stewardship is usually given second chair to tithing almost like a separate thought....

I am hoping that my following tone will be understood by other readers in the light of the whole situation with this fellow.

Tithing was never commanded to the church. How sad...not your statement above, but your own ironic lack of listening to your own advice.

If you would have taken the time to listen (as the first line of each post in this series instructs) to the audio you would hear the context and understand that I am teaching that we are NOT commanded to tithe.

Instead you go to your google reader (or whatever) looking for key words (i.e. tithing) so you can find a place to trot out your "pet" and (it seems) you have forgetten that you have even been to this site before and agreed with me about the issue in a previous post and have even emailed me before, but it seems that you are only looking to do a drive by shooting without actually considering what is going on here.

You obviously didn't listen to the posts at all, which immediately destroys your credibility, considering that at the onset of all the audio portions I very specifically state the very thing you say, that tithing is not commanded for the NT church.

A PhD ought to know better than to do such sloppy work.

Listen, hear me out:

The NT does not teach us to tithe. I am talking about grace giving, and understanding that all the talk that we have to give a certain percentage to make God happy or get Him off your back, or get some blessing is false, which you would obviously agree with.

I expected this type of assault from what we call in the blogging world "trolls", but not from you.
