The Standard

because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.
(Acts 17:31 – ESV)

The resurrection shows that Jesus will be the judge of humanity (Acts 10:42), and also the standard of righteousness by which all shall be judged (Romans 1:4).

Why does a good God allow evil? It is because He is merciful. If He were to institute instant justice none of us would make it through the day.

When we say that God has all power, we mean all, ALL, A-L-L power...He is the Creator, but also the sustainer, and yes the allow-er, but also the forgiver.

Jesus has been given all power (Matthew 28:18)…be a standard bearer and tell your world of His righteousness and His power to save.

God allows evil because He is merciful.
Amen, good point JD.
But His wrath surely is being stored up. As Hoover Dam holds back 10 trillion gallons of water, which, if, released, would cause incomprehensible destruction, when compsred to God's wrath is a mere trickle of water.

[[I was reading this, and thought it was very interesting. Amazing really.

The thought that God's wrath being poured out in a much more powerful measure than that produces in me...well, go to that link, check it out, and then ponder the wrath of God being poured out on His Son, our Savior, and thank Jesus that He loved His Father's will and our souls so much...incomprehensible, but this Hoover Dam link will perhaps make it a little more tangible for a moment...

Thanks for that thought JD.

There's no way to measure that kind of love. Impossible.

"instant justice".... in our humanity we think that would be great if we could have instant justice when we feel that we have been wronged. If God gave instant justice He definitely would have wiped us all out a long time ago.
Praise God for His mercy and grace!

Mercy. I was thinking that when I was writing that piece, but my mind was so focused on the main thesis- the hypocritical (as well as hypercritical) mindset of the person seeking to judge God's nature when they have not assessed the evil within their own nature first. But I did think to add some commentary regarding mercy before posting the piece Monday. Thank you for the encouragement!
