What Is Your Favorite Bible Verse?

...for you have exalted above all things your name and your word
(Psalm 138:2 - ESV)

Okay this one is simple; I would like to know what some of your favorite Bible verses are. If you would like, give us the "why". How have they impacted you? How have you ministered to others with them?

It doesn't even have to be the verse you think is the best or something like that, it could just be a verse that gave you special comfort at a difficult time, even just once. Maybe it is a verse that is your favorite right now. There are really no wrong answers...

However, do not answer, "they are all my favorites", or give us some super spiritual sanctimony.

What we want to do is magnify the Word of the Lord!

Don't worry if someone else took yours or all the good ones or whatever, just repeat it. Come back and post more than one.

This is your chance to glorify God, and tell the world what His Word has meant to you, so EVERYONE speak up!

These two instantly come to mind:

"Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." Ephesians 2:8&9

Without a doubt, Romans 12:1-2:

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

These are my favs because no matter what other portions of scripture I read, I always seem to end up feeling convicted to do what these verses tell me to do: offer up myself, and be sanctified.

Psalm 51:10,11

Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. (Hosea 4:6 ESV)

While I have to remember that knowledge isn't merely intellectualism, this verse reminds me of why it is important that the word is truly taught as often as possible.

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. -James 1:2-8

James’ epistle has oftentimes spoken to me on a personal level, revealing my true thoughts, intentions & shortcomings (a nice word for sin).

His letter demonstrates that “perfect & complete” faith:

a. does not doubt
b. is not idle, but finds its perfection & completion through action.

I found I was not asking God for wisdom, through His Word & His Spirit, but seeking comprehension of Him largely through my own means & intellect; this was why I was “like a wave of the sea, driven & tossed by the wind.” I saw the ever-changing wind representing my ever-changing mindsets & heart, driving me here & there with no steadfast course, & therefore no destination. I had no consistent standard. It was at this point I realized His Word & His Spirit to grant me all the wisdom I require, but They may not supply all the wisdom I desire. This was the sticking point. God, in His sovereign judgment, may or may not answer all my questions (I had & still have many), but in order to receive comprehension of what I require (to live as a child of Him), I must give up the need for comprehension of the greater or corporate “kingdom of God” & the observed universe’s interaction with it. I praise Him, for in the time since making this intellectual transformation, He has granted me the measures of faith & wisdom I need to walk in Him, while concordantly & gracefully given me confidence in some of the more superfluous enigmas I have pondered (such as sound rebuttals to Darwinian thought).

Sorry if this rambled a bit, but it would take pages to explore how much this passage has spoken to me; instead I just hit some of the high points.

Thank you for that Steve, your points are worth writing out, and us receiving them is a blessing...

I have two favorite verses that have helped me when I was afraid of the unknown and weary that some of my family would never accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

I Tim.1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and a sound mind.

Acts 16:31 And Jesus said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

I have just recently read a scripture that has begun to burn within me. I have read it many times before. I was crying out to God for help in a situation, and as I read these verses, I saw them as God's direction for my help in time of need. Proverbs 18:20-21 is where I found wisdom beyond anything I could think or ask. I am still pondering on these scriptures. I am not sure what it means in verse 21 when it states " and they that love IT shall eat the fruit thereof." Not sure what IT refers to...the tongue? life? power? I am still asking God for clarification on this one, but the rest of the words in these two verses are working in me to bring me help in my time of need. Glory to God. He never fails to amaze me.

Well now, I wonder who that was, eh?

Thanks for commenting, Mom....but it is 2 Timothy 1:7 (I am going home to see her this weekend, and that is gonna cost me for sure, ha ha)...

Funny you should mention those Proverbs verses, as I was going to do a post on them very soon, now more so than ever...

Whoops, I love you, Mom (I am in real trouble)!

They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever. Ps 125:1

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths. Pr 3:5-6

So many times in my life God has reminded me (and I'm sure many times to come) that I cannot understand the "big picture" but He does! Hallelujah! He knows what's best for me. As long as I stay focused on Him, I cannot fail, because when I'm focused I am in Christ and He never fails!

Thanks for the correction on my first scripture. I was actually typing it from my Bible and didn't realize I typed 1 Timothy instead of 2 Timothy. I love this verse because it sums up how God has given me weapons to fight against vain imaginings and things that are not sound or true. About the Proverbs scriptures.....I'd love to know your thoughts on them. Maybe we can talk about them when you come over. BTW, I love you too.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. (Philippians 4:8 ESV)

A reminder to me not to dwell on the negative, but to focus on the positive. This follows very shortly after Paul's command to rejoice in the Lord.

Hello,
I have been reading this site for awhile and I am gettin' fed real good, LOL. My favorite verse is from Galations 2:20;

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Keep up the great work!

Well I was going to pick one from that chapter, but didn't want to leave that one out, or that one either, etc.

Colossians 3:16 is right up there for me, it is my goal for ministry and life, Acts 14:21-23 (mentioned before) is big to me about the role of the church and ministers, and Revelation 22:20 (mentioned before) is what I want to see happen NOW!
