Bible Warnings against the Occult

(Astrology, Spiritism, Secret Knowledge, Magic, etc.)

When you come into the land that the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a wizard or a necromancer, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD. And because of these abominations the LORD your God is driving them out before you.

I hope this list might be helpful to you, I think it is needed...as amazing as it may seem, there are people in our churches who think it is okay to be reading horoscopes, having someone read their fortune, and all sorts of attempts to get secret knowledge and things like that, so many could be listed, but in any event, things like that are most certainly not good...even if they were to "work" they are forbidden by God...

That's one objection that I've heard to the forbidding of occult practices... that something might work. I have never seen that as a reason from Scripture. "Don't use them 'cause they don't work; it's just cheap parlor tricks." There is a much more important reason, and that's because God says it offends Him. The usefulness or practical appeal of satisfying wants does not change God's mind about it, so it should not be used to change ours. It's time God's people learned what "abomination" means. Tarot... horoscope... palm reading... Hey, try Psalm reading instead, eh?
