Daily Gospel Devotional: February 15

Matthew 8:14-17 / Mark 1:29-34 / Luke 4:38-41

Drawing near to deliverance…

The ministry of Jesus was the manifestation of the Son of God. It involved temporal signs of power pointing to the everlasting comfort of God (Isaiah 53:4 / 1 Peter 2:24).

Peter’s mother in law was weakened, but when Jesus took her by the hand, and she recovered, the first thing she does is serve Him. People who are sick are grateful when they get well. When Jesus has healed someone who is spiritually sick, that person becomes a servant of the Master.

The fame of Jesus was spreading. The movement of God will draw people near to deliverance. Jesus reaches the physical, mental, and spiritual places. There is no sin that Jesus cannot deliver you from. Christ delivers from disease, delivers from demons, and most importantly, delivers from damnation. That’s the one thing you need deliverance from most of all.

The demons know, believe, and fear Jesus (James 2:19), but the demons are not delivered. They do not serve Jesus willingly, but only as far as His sovereign power orchestrates their movements. Have you been delivered? If you have been delivered from darkness you will follow His light (Ephesians 2:8-10 / 1 John 2:15-17, 5:19).

Do you serve Jesus, or yourself? You are not delivered to become your own king; you have been transferred from one kingdom to another (Colossians 1:13 / 1 Peter 2:9). Those God saves become God’s slaves (Romans 6:11, 18, 22 / 2 Timothy 2:19 / 1 Peter 2:16).

Will you be delivered (James 4:6-8), or do you want to be damned?

It is time we all get serious about serving the Almighty HOLY God and quit deceiving ourselves with selfishness and complacency.

Powerful verses. Ones to read and re-read and ponder and pray about for sure.

Show us our idols Lord and give us the desire and strength to demolish them in order that you may be glorified in our bodies.

I encourage all to read all the scriptures in the context of today's post. Ponder and pray that God would reveal to you the truth. That it will become obvious in the light of everyday choices.

Be sure that you're not just checking off a duty of the day in reading these devotions. Devote yourselves to understanding and application.

Help us all oh Lord. Continue to strengthen and guide us in the light of your glory and grace.

I am glad for that too, Paul.

In pondering Ephesians 2:8-10, think about this:

The atonement absolves you from sin and from works, but we need to define these things more clearly. Don’t think that the atonement absolves you from all works; it absolves you from sin, and it absolves your from having to do works in order to receive forgiveness and justification. However, while it absolves you from sin, it absorbs you into good works.

Faith without works is dead (James 2:26), and a dead faith cannot be a born again faith.

It is absurd to think that saving grace doesn't result in a transformed life.

It is wrong to believe that the gospel has purchased the right for us to stay in our sins.
